This isn't a fair comparison!. The 70-200mm L will always outshine this lens!. Superior image quality, superior lens build quality!. The 28-200mm is a kit lens with no distance window, or proper Manual focusing ring!. The 70-200 is by far the better choice!. However, something i think you missed is the presence of Image Stabilization!. Even an L lens isn't immune to photographer shake, probably even more susceptible, since it's that much heavier!.

You seem to be getting into Photography, much like i am, just on a more commercial Scale!. You seem to not mind a bit of investment!. Why not Lunge on the 70-200mm f/4L IS, heck, why not the 70-200mm f/2!.8L IS!? Even faster, with IS!. Of course, they're much more expensive than their Non-IS counterparts!. However, if 1,600$ is a bit out of your range, you should Instead get the 70-200mm f/2!.8L without the IS, which is a little over one thousand!. Still could suffer From the absence of Image stabilization, but has a faster maximum aperture!.

The good thing with L lenses is that they can maintain the maximum aperture throughout the entire zoom range, which isn't standard on any of their other lenses!. This is why you should go for L!. You really can't compare the 28-200 with either of these L lenses!.

If you aren't going to flex your budget, the 70-200mm is a sharper lens, and by far superior in build quality!. If you will flex, however, get the f/2!.8 version of this lens, much faster for all of your photography!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well of course the L series lens is better, but if you have more of a need for the other one, then it suits you better!. I actually have both of these lenses!. I find the 28-200 really handy for vacation that way I have one lens that covers a lot of territory, but I rarely use it for my serious shooting!. Although it really is a nice lens!. I just have better in my arsenal!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A 28-200 is a nice all purpose lens, wide to zoom!.

Since you mention doing product photography, the wide aspect of that lens may also be preferable to the 70mm low end of the other lens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
