Question: I am thinking about a degree in fine art, does anyone have any advice!?

It really depends on what you want to do after your degree!.

I had no idea what I wanted to do before university so I just went for a course which I knew I would love (I did fine art painting)!.

There is a massive misconception that art courses do not lead to employment and that they are verging on 'Mickey Mouse' courses, but that is utter rubbish!. At the end of the day it is still a creative course which helps you develop your skills in design and many other things!. And EVERYTHING needs designing!

I got a job straight away after my degree as a Designer which I started the week after I left!.

If there is something specialised that you know you want to do though I would advise you to look further into if there are any courses which relate specifically to that!.

I think the most important thing of all though is to choose to do whatever you love, because then you will stick to it and give it your all!

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

My daughter did one, and regretted not including studies such as librarianship, conservation, museum administration etc as part of her course!. She felt she didn't leave with the ability to do a particular job, once she established that she couldn't make her living as an artist (one good lesson she learned, by the way)!. She now works in publishing in the scientific field, but would happily transfer to an art publisher if she had the chance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
