Both cameras are great!. The D80 has more features, an in-body autofocus drive motor - to use non AF-S lenses like the AF nikkor 50mm f/1!.4/8, a better auto-focus sensor, and better image processing capability, not to mention 10!.1 mp vs!. 6 mp!. I shoot with a D80 and have no plans to upgrade at this point, it's a great camera for me!. But with a D40, I couldn't use my favorite lens with autofocus - the AF nikkor 70-210mm f/4-5!.6D!. The most important consideration when buying a camera is its use with whatever glass you may already have, or plan to get in the future!. With the limitation of only using AF-S lenses to have use of the modern yet standard autofocusing facility - the D40 doesn't make full use of nikon's top quality glass!. That's my opinion, though!. If you want the extra features of the D80, by all means get the D80 - you will not regret that decision!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There's never wrong with buying something used as long as it is in good condition!.!.!.this applies to cameras too!.

If you decide to get the D80 make sure it is in great condition before dishing out hundreds of dollars

If it isn't go with the new D40Www@QuestionHome@Com
