Question: Oil paint and collage!?
Hi!. I make paintings with oil paint!. I want to collage things into them, like paper!. But of course paper would deteriorate because of the oil paint!. Wondering if anyone knows of anything that's made that would work, like some sort of colored paper-like thin plastic sheets, or anything anyone's ever used with oil paint that did not have an archival problem!? Yes, I know this would not be a problem if I were using acrylics, but I have all oil paint now and am hoping not to have to spend hundreds on acrylics!. Thanks!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, Naomi, you know how long oils take to dry!. Adding paper and other collage elements will just make it take longer to dry!. The oils will also soak through many items!. It could be made to work, but it would be a frustrating project!. I have never heard of products made specifically for collages made with oil paints!.

I sympathize with you about the investment in materials!. That's one of the things that make art so expensive to do!. I myself have been an artist for over 40 years and I now have over $7000 worth of materials on hand!. I have decided to complete projects with some items, then no longer work with it so I can limit my need to store all these materials!. You might avoid this challenge by only painting!. If you really want to do collage work, your best bet is to invest in acrylics!. You could also work without painting in your collages so no new paint would be necessary!. Either way, have fun with it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
