Question: Where do I start for better pictures!?
I am re-asking my old question a little clearer!. I DO want to learn the basics of photography!. I am about as beginner as you can get!. So where do I start!? Where can I learn about lighting, shutter, composure and all that wonderful stuff!? I take really good pictures now and again, but it just happens!. I want to know what I'm doing so that I can get good pictures more frequently!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
First, get a good book!. I highly recommend "Photography" by Barbara London, John Upton et al!. You can get a used copy and older edition 7, for much less than than the current edition with little loss in content and more than adequate for your purposes!.

Second, go to a basic class!. Most night schools and Junior Colleges will offer everything you need!. You will get top-notch instruction and guided help without investing a fortune!.

Third, practice!. Not just random practice, but set specific goals for yourself and what you want to achieve!. Look at images you admire from the books and class lectures and then attempt to replicate them!.

Fourth, critiques!. Join a camera club and enter contests within the organization!. You can get some pretty directed criticism and advice (beware of the ego mongers at these venues who present pompous bs)!.

Fifth, go to lectures and museums!. By attending lectures given by the famous and listening to their insights, you can get some clue as to what makes their images successful!. I have found that having some thought provoking questions to ask them after the lecture provides the most helpful information!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
