Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The memory card in your camera handles files the same way the hard drive on your computer does!. It stores the picture data and creates a directory entry that tells the operating system where to find it!. When you delete a file, it deletes the directory entry!. The actual data remains where it was until it is overwritten or the drive is formatted, so it may be possible to recover deleted pictures!. There is software that can do that for you!. One that I have is called RescuePro and is bundled with some SanDisk memory cards!. Www@QuestionHome@Com When you delete a picture on a digital camera what actually happens is that the camera removes the part at the front of the picture that tells the camera that there is useful data there!. So as far as the camera is concerned there is nothing there, but the actual data of the picture sticks around until something else gets written over the top of it!. There are many software packages that will recover pictures just so long as the data hasn't been overwritten!. These packages vary in usefulness and price!. You can get a basic software package for $50 that will get a picture back if the camera hasn't been used since the image was deleted, or if it has a large memory card and that part of it hasn't been used since the image was deleted, or you can get REALLY expensive packages like those used by the police and the FBI to recover deleted images from cameras used by pedophiles and other criminals that can recover parts of pictures even a lot of the image has been over written!. It's not hacking, it's basic data recovery and reconstruction!. It happens all the time, there are professional companies that will recover data for you for a fee!. If you want to destroy an image (Like if you take a naughty picture and you don't want your mom to see it) deleting it will be enough unless she's some kind of computer pro!. If she is a pro then you need to reformat the card several times to erase enough of the data that only the FBI would be able to recover the image!. Though this is overkill if it's just a naughty picture!. The best way to destroy an image is to destroy the memory card!. It is a little more difficult after other images are made over the originals but it still can be done!.
