Question: Could someone explain to me Surreal Art!?
I've tried Wikipedia, but it didn't give a clear defintion of what defines a surreal piece of artwork, or at least, one I could understand!.

Is it just an image of something that's pretty impossible or incredibly out of the ordinary!?

I'd really appreciate a clear answer on this!.

Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

A movement launched in Paris by A!. Breton based on searching for things beyond realism!. Surrealistic art deals with the subject of the subconsious mind!. There is often a dreamlike quality to the art with strange juxtapositions & compositions but usually rendered in realistic detail!. It was largely based on Freudian theory & a reaction to WW1!. The art was meant to provoke disconcerting feeling in the viewer!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

my own interpretation: after photography was invented and popularized, it was not necessary to paint according to nature, or to make portraits!. hence the modern arts movement!. while other forms of modern arts studied colours and forms, surrealism was strongly influenced by freud, study of psychology, the interpretation of dreams, and modern poetry!.
