Question: Is there an equivalent to PhotoShop software!?
My children are into photography / art and would like Photoshop on the computer to edit and jazz up their shots, however it costs a fortune!.

Are there any alternative (cheaper) version that anyone could recommend!. I don't mind spending some money, but I object to paying hundreds of pounds !.!.!.!.

Here's my suggestions, from best to least desirable options

1) Picasa - free, does a fair bit too

picasa!.google!.com

2) Gimp - very powerful, free, but hard to use!. The user interface was apparently written by nerds assuming you already know a lot already about computers and photography!. Very steep learning curve!. but worth using if you/your kids have a long term interest in photography

3) Print Workshop 2009 - I've used the 2007 version for two years, and am happy with it for making cards, posters, presentation title screens, etc!. It has lots of clip art and "frames" included!. The actual photo editing capability is limited to contrast/brightness/color correction/file size!.

It retails for $19!.99 U!. S!., but a discount "big box" store should carry it for about $15 or so!.

4) Photoshop Elements!. Photoshop is the industry standard, and is quite powerful!. "Elements" has some features removed, but still will do just about any photo editing a very advanced photo amateur could dream of!. Whether or not you want to spend the discount price of $75 (version 6) or $95 (latest release6) for it is up to you and your budget!.

Try google!. Corel Paint Shop isn't quite as good as photoshop, but there are a ton of free trials that you can use and reuse from different sites, and it is easier to use!.
also, you can find free downloads of photoshop on the net if you search for them!. It's easier to buy, but if you look they are out there!. Even if it means downloading trials from different sites, thats an option if you really dont want to spend the money!. Or have them use the trials and save up for the actual program!!
also, try portrait professional, and gimp!. I haven't used them yet, but they're raved about, and I am looking into experimenting with them!.
let your kids play around with trials, and discover which one they like, then tell them to save their allowance!Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you want FREE software to edit/modify your photographs then you may like to try Gimp(http://www!.gimp!.org/) or Paint!.net(http://www!.paint!.net/) as both have a significant proportion of the facilities offered by commercial applications such as Photoshop!. PCWorld magazine recently recommended Paint!.net in the photo-editing market!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I always recommend the GIMP to people!. Seems that a good bit of the time I get responses about how difficult it is to use, which I just don't see!. I have used PS, though not in the last few years, and I found it to be harder to use than the GIMP and insanely priced!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What about Photoshop Elements!? It doesn't cost 3 arms and a leg!. But still might be more than what you want to pay for your kids to play around with!. Photoshop is really the only program I have working knowledge of!. I know there are others out there, but maybe someone else can help you with the details of those!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Plenty, just put photo editing software into a search engine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I personally use elements, but picasa is free and might be a good place for them to start!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

GIMP is free and has some pretty interesting effects!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

DOWNLOAD GIMP - ITS FREE AN JUST AS GOOD AS PS!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
