Question: Is it safe to use old Canon lenses on a new EOS 1000D!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It will accept EF and EF-s mount lenses (also called Canon Autofocus by the third party lens manufacturers)!. It will not accept FD or FL lenses, or anything previous to that!. And the FD and FL lenses do not adapt well if you were to buy an adapter, they basically become a macro lens!.

With the exception of some third party lenses that need to be re-chipped, if it fits, it works!. Actually the full frame cameras are the ones that have less lenses that fit them, they wont accept the EF-s lenses as the glass elements extend too far into the body and the mirror will hit the lens!. Crop sensor cameras, like your EOS 1000, have a smaller mirror so they have more clearance!.

The EOS 1000 is also called the XS, not to be confused with the XSi!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good Afternoon

The Canon Rebel EOS 1000d will accept an EF-S or EF lens!. So, most likely, this ' old ' lens is just from a few years ago, and is an EF lens- it will fit!. If it's something really old, like 30 years ago, when not all canon camera had either an EF or EF-S mount, it certainly won't work!. However, most likely, it will work!.
