Question: How do I transfer an image from a piece of paper on to another surface!?
I'm doing lino in art class at the moment, and the image I'm working from is pretty detailed!. I know I could either project the image onto the lino using a projector and transparencies, but it will take hours to draw in all the detail!. The same goes for carbon paper!. Is there any way to transfer an image printed from a regular printer, on a regular piece of paper, onto another surface (linoleum in my case)!? I've tried placing the paper face down on the surface and rubbing with acetone + alcohol, but it's not transferring!. Please help!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi Kate

That is called printing on positive film!. Many shops do this for cheap!. It is almost like a slide (which is colored and can be enlarged and projected)!.
They use this to make signs on building now-adays with a neon behind it, The light projects through it and the image looks like it was lit up from a forward shoot when in reality, it is done via back-lighting!.

That should take care of what you want to do as far as projecting and avoiding to draw the image and and and, getting a perfect result with what I am suggesting!. I did it!. So, at least, I know what you are relating to!.

Edit!.!.!.this is the same technique as ouputing films for a press except that, the 4 films are outputted on one film only!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you have access to a projector, just scan the image into the computer and print it out on a transparency (though make sure you buy a transparency which is OK to be printed on, otherwise you can ruin a printer, or you go to a place like Kinko's)!. Then project it onto your lino for cutting!.
Otherwise there are image transfer solutions or image transfer papers!. Some work with heat others with chemicals!. Just google "image transfer" for more info!. Don't forget that for those you have to flip your image into the mirror image on the computer before printing!. You could probably just head to the next art store and ask them what they have in stock!. Usually you need a photocopy or a laser printer copy for image transfer solutions to work!. What do you currently have!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
