Question: Advice For Pushing 35mm Film!?
I was wanting to use some fast 35mm film for indoor sports, concerts, and artistic purposes!. The problem is, the only widely available high-speed film for me is 3200 Delta!. This was $8!.99 for 36 exposures!. I was wanting to know if it would be plausible to push, say, 400 ISO black and white Kodak to 1600 or 3200 ISO!? Thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I almost never recommend digital over film but in this case I will make an exception!. The 1600 speed on a dSLR is perfect for sports and concerts, plus the post processing possibilities open up even more flexibilty!.

If you are going to shoot film then I recommend Ilford's 3200!. It is not super expensive, $6!.00/roll and you can push process it yourself!.

You can though the results can be grainy unless you use a good film developer designed for pushing Tri-x!. See if you can get your hands on some Acufine film developer!. Go here to see:

I have used this product in the past and have developed film pushed up to 6400!. I was working for a small newspaper and did their darkroom work!. Normally we only pushed to 800 or 1600 but some night games were up to 3200 and one guy gave me several rolls of film he did at 6400 - the developing time on these were 30 minutes!. They weren't bad grain wise but were bad in general composition we didn't use them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You "can"!.!.!.!. but that IS pushing it a bit far and the results will be mighty crappy!.!.!.!.!.

I would bite the bullet and get 1000 or 1600 or even the fast 3200 and push THEM 1 or 2 stops, and go from there!. Your pics will be GRAINY to say the least, but no where near the train wreck you would get from trying to push 400 THAT far!.!.

Not to mention, the $$ spent in the push process, would make it wiser to buy the fast(er) film to begin with!.!.

Pushing a 400 ISO film two stops will get you to 1600 but I wouldn't suggest pushing it three (3200) unless you want really strange images and grainy results!.!.!. then again, that might be something you may want to do for artistic expression!.

Whatever you want to do!.!.!. just do it!.
