Question: Is it possible to be a Graphic designer and a Fine Artist!?
I love painting and making art that is personal and not necessarily for everyone!. Lets just say I don't think I can make a living off of my fine art alone!. So if I focus on my design skills for a while and get a graphic design job, will this be sacrificing my love for pure art!? Is it possible to do both things at the same time, be an independant artist and a graphic designer!? Or is that just crazy!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know lots of people that have a day job as a graphic artist/media artist/photographer/animator, etc!. and then go home and do their own thing!. I don't think you'd be sacrificing too much, as they can both go hand in hand, and I'm sure you'd be able to work on your fine art in your spare time!. Plus, it's a LOT harder to make a living off of fine art!. So I would do a bit of both!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do not know why those two replied with such huge 'paragraphs'

To answer your question, An artist can buy a tablet and draw on it like on a normal paper canvas!.!.!. ~His drawings will be transferred into digital paintings!.!.!. or vice versaWww@QuestionHome@Com

good question!.
there is sometimes a deep ideological difference between the "two worlds"!. there is in fact a world between creating for your own satisfaction, and creating for someone else, who may not have the slightest artistic taste!. graphic art is about carrying a message, but its rarely your own!. you have to be a very strong creator to do it, imho!.
i remember my years as a fine arts student (so long ago!)
at the cafeteria, graphic artists and fine arts students did not mix much!. fine artists considered graphic arts students as selling their souls, while graphic arts students thought we where tramps and slobs! but i guess it all comes down to creativity!. i suppose if you do both (graphic arts for a living, and fine arts for yourself) you will create in two worlds that may very well influence and inspire each other!.
it may not be a bad thing!. it is dangerous for a fine artist to disconnect from "the real world", as a graphic artist, you will be right into it! it is a very competitive world though!.
again, the graphic arts students would not readily share ideas for fear of having those ideas stolen!. while we readily shared, borrowed and gave!. the difference is normal: the graphic artist might have a contract lost when an idea is stolen!.
anyway!.!.!. whatever job you chose, you will find that creativity will help you through!. hell!.!.!. i work as a credit agent and creativity helps me (were it only to get through the dull moments!)!.
the best advice any arts teacher gave me though, was: you will have to work for a living, and it will look like the world is eating you alive!. you will get home, tired and depressed, and you will not have any idea to put to paper, not even the courage to lift a brush!. never mind, your creativity, your gift is still there!. it cannot leave you, it is a part of you!.
know what!? its true!. it never goes away, even when you wish you never had the urge to draw/paint anything!.
sorry for the long answer, you got me going!
