Question:

Years ago I went to a dance where the photographer used her laptop to line up the shot and take the image with immediate review!. Later I worked for a company who had their own program which did the same thing!. I'm not as interested in guiding the camera as I am the large view and immediate large review!. How would I do that!? I have a nikon d40!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You will need computer shooting software and not every D-SLR out there has such!. You "could" hook the video out put from the camera to a TV or small high rez flat screen - www!.tigerdirect!.com - and view fairly quickly that way!.!.

Years ago, I too saw the "instant view" from a few graduation and such photographers!. However, they were using medium format cameras with video cameras built into these commercial studio cameras and the video had a frame or image capture lock synced to the camera's shutter!. Sears, K-Mart and boo coo other places had these cameras years ago and they took bulk rolls of a 120 like film!.

As the shutter went off and the studio strobe lights flashed, the video captured that moment as seen thru the camera's lens and then displayed on the TV screen what was just taken on film!.

My Fuji D-SLR's have this camera shooting via computer software and cables!. The preview screen is small and to get it to be larger is a multi mouse button series of clicks!. Rather slow!.!.!. I have tried the video out, just after shooting, and it works GREAT, I see no reason why it wouldn't work on others with a video out jack because we all preview a lot of out shots just as soon as the "save" is finished!. With the camera plugged into a TV, you would see it there as well as on your little screen on the camera!.

Your camera has to have Live View to be able to do what you say!.

The D40 doesn't have live view!. sorry!.

With cameras that do have live view, there are programs like DSLR Remote which do what you want!. Without live view you can still hook your camera up to the computer via USB cable and use the software to take pictures, its useful for time lapse photos!. But you will not be able to see what is in the viewfinder until you snap a shot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
