Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Tenebrism - from the latin word tenebrae meaning darkness - a style of painting especially associated with the Italian painter Caravaggio and his followers in which most of the figures are engulfed in shadow but some are dramatically illuminated by a beam of light usually from an identifiable source
'Chiaroscuro - Italian for "light-dark!." The graduations of light and dark values in two-dimensional imagery; especially the illusion of rounded, three-dimensional form created through gradations of light and shade rather than line!. Highly developed by Renaissance painters!.
These two definitions are not my own!. (To find any art term put in the word you want plus DEFINITION)!. But as you will read above: one speaks of a light source coming out of darkness; the other of graduations of light and shade!. that is the big difference!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
