Question: Here is my situation!?
I work with a pro photog with the 5d, she wants to partner me!. We would share lenses, however, I already have a 300 dollar (not alot I know) 1!.8 85 fixed focal (full frame I assume since it says nothing about being a dx lens) in the nikon series, I also am broke, no REALLY broke!. I need low light capabilities, probably a full frame bc conversions are a bit much for me at weddings when I need to be on the fly, but seriously, I don't need it, I just need something good, my d70 has more noise then just about any modern point and shoot, I need shallow depth of field and quality glass!.!.!. photo ace, you are the man!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't buy a Canon so you can share lenses!.!.!. that's not a pro for the Canon side, that's you settling for Canon so you can share lenses - besides, I can assure you that you will NOT be sharing lenses unless you buy a 5D!.!.!. Canon uses SYSTEMS!.!.!. and her lens' fit her SYSTEM!.

Buy a Canon Rebel and I bet my life and first born child that you CANNOT share lenses with her!.

Your Nikon is well suited for the task!.!.!. you need to open it up for narrow dof and if you have 'noise' try cleaning your CCD!.!.!. I'd be willing to bet that hasn't been touched since you bought the camera!. Dust gets on them too!.

Don't SETTLE for something you ultimately won't like!. If you have been using Nikons!.!.!. you won't like Canon!.

Ask the Pros who shoot sports that are returning back to the Nikon after switching to Canons a few years back!.

Your Nikon accepts ALL F-mount lenses (about 400 of them)!.

If you are getting more noise with your D70 than a P&S, something is seriously wrong!.

My old D100 still shoots amazing images when I use it set with Image size Large, JPEG Fine and at the lowest ISO, 200!. The D100 is two year older than your D70 !.!.!. your camera has higher technology than the D100 !.!.!.

What you need is in addition to the fine 85 mm f/1!.8, you need something like a 28-85 mm f/2!.8~4 lens (used) and a SB600 flash!. These items with the D70, you will have all you need to shoot weddings!.

Jumping into the full frame Nikon D700, especially since you are broke, makes NO sense, especially when you have the equipment you need to shoot wonderful wedding shots!.

It seems to me, that the "pro" you are working with is not that experienced to assume that you need a full frame DSLR to produce good wedding shots!. They may not even have much education in photography!.

Before the next wedding you shoot, do some tests!.

Simulate the conditions you find when shooting weddings!.

* Shoot at your cameras lowest ISO and the lens you have!.
* Shoot indoors using your hand held skills (bracing, breathing and squeezing the shutter release) with the white balance set for incandescent!.
* Shoot using your onboard flash unit (with your lens shade off) with the white balance set for flash!.
* Shoot your friends in the candid mode in the late afternoon with the white balance set to bright sun (unless you are shooting in the shade)

NOTE: Shoot all your weddings in RAW + JPEG Basic!. You will get the highest quality images in RAW and you can do your first edits (sorts) using the JPEG files !.!.!. once you are down to the highest quality traditional and best of the best candids, process the RAW images that match those image files!.

Changing camera systems so you can use someone elses lenses is not a good business decision!. At this monument in the history of photography, film and digital, Nikon is leading the pack !.!.!. switching to Canon would be a mistake, especially with many of us sports and editorial photographers are switching to Nikon's from our Canon systems!. It is true that Nikon is helping us make the transition so we do not go broke replacing $40,000 in cameras and lenses but Canon did this to the Nikon users in the early nineties, so I guess turn about is fair play!.

8 GB CF cards are under $50 now !.!.!. 2 GB cards under $11 each!. Spend your money there first and use the money you make shooting weddings to buy at least the 24-85 mm lens (used) or if you can make enough in the next two shoots a nice 24-70 mm f/2!.8
