I've never been brilliant at art, but I've always wanted to improve!. Recently I've been inspired by a really great amateur artist!. She's amazing!. I know it takes a lot of practice but can you give me any tips to get better!. I don't want to do it as a living or anything but just to enjoy it and be really good at it!.

Cheers guys!. xDWww@QuestionHome@Com

I love to draw!. I seriously love it!.
I can give you as many tips as I know, although I'm also an amateur artist in the making as well!. Mostly, I enjoy drawing portraits!.!.!.

Figure:
Make sure the body flows from each ligament, bone, and structure!. Instead of making it disproportionate, stiff, or even too flowed, make it have a bit more stableness!. The best way to start off figure drawing is to make tubes from basic shapes!.
Head: Circle
Body/Torso: Cylinder with a circle at the end for hips
Arms+Legs: Cylinders, make sure you put something to connect each joint and ball and socket to make it more flowing

Face Drawing: MY favorite!

Most people, when they draw the face, put an oval, then smack a nose, eyes, and mouth, in random places!. Don't do this! separate it into four quadrants, the top two being slightly larger!. this is your forehead!. On the line that separates it into two horizontally, use ovals to make the outline of the eyes!. Be sure to keep your angles in mind!. Dont draw a face turning slightly, with the eyes staring dead at you!.

The nose is infamously named the hardest part of the face to draw!. But actually, it is very easy with practice!. Look in the mirror and try to connect them to your eyes first!. See how the curves of your nose extend from the eyebrows, right above the eyes!. The way the bridge of your nose slightly curves in and out!. Using a mirror, try to connect the nose using your eyes that you've already drawn!. try starting them up a little bit above your eyes, generically where your eyebrows would be!.

The mouth is the part of the face that most people mistake as a sharp outline!. But, really, its just a mix of shadows and depth!. The bottom lip is fuller, and it has more ridges and bumps than the top!. Make sure to shade the center where the top meets the bottom!. Remember, the lips aren't smooth!. They have ridges and bumps, and reflect!.

Ears: Personally, this my worst part!. The ears are a series of curves, which could be simplified using Math!. (I know, scary right!? I hate math :D) Have you ever heard of the Fibonacci Spiral!?
Well, its a series of rectangles, which are placed in accordance to the Fibonacci Sequence!. Using each rectangle, make an arc!. (You can find the layout of the spiral anywhere)
How this relates to drawing the ears is that the contours of the ears are actually the Spiral!. The overall outline of the ear is pretty much a softened peanut-shape!. Remeber to make the inner ear!

Hair: This is the part that most beginning artist struggle with!. They draw each individual line, when actually, the hair is a bunch of ribbons tied together with highlights and depth!. Start by dividing the section of hair into ribbons!. Then identify the darkest and the lightest areas by shading them so!. After that, use them as a guideline for shading them accordingly!.

Art isnt perfectWww@QuestionHome@Com

make sure you have a good range of pencil grades ie!. hb to 6h!. or try charcoal !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whatever you see and think "That would make a great picture!!!" draw it!. When your bored draw!.
Don't take it seriously, do it as a hobby!. Hobbies are fun!!!!

I remember I used to draw a circle and 5 lines for hands, but as I grew older I got better- because I WANTED to be better!.

Copy other people drawing too, soon you can adapt it into your "own" style!. And if you draw photos it helps, you can see what your aiming for!.

Sketch really lightly!. When I draw I turn my mistakes into a better picture, I hate to rub things out!.

And watch a lot of Smart and Art Attack- I still do =]Www@QuestionHome@Com
