Question: Is this a good new logo for my school!?

Our school logo is pretty old (like over 35 years old) and so is the website, I asked the principal and he wants me to come up with a new logo, so what do you think of it!?

The first rule of a logo is that it should work in many circumstances and print processes!. What this means is that it should work on a business card; on the side of a bus; and a version should work in just one colour, for example if you wanted it embossed on a school folder!.

With that in mind I would say your knight and horse are too small in proportion to the type, and that the horse is too small in comparison with the knight!. Take it back to the essentials, remove all the gradients and try it at a business card size, some of the finer lines will start to fill in, show it to people who are unfamiliar with the concept, see if they can recognise the shapes as a knight and horse!.

I would say you can take the imagery further from the original logo, for inspiration look at crusader's helmets, horses and weapons online!. Make the imagery fit better with the type style, your type choice has no sharp outside corners, maybe your image shouldn't either!. Make it as simple as you can, then look at it at different sizes, cut the various elements out play with the positioning, change the proportions!. Alter the image(s) until you are happy that it resembles what you are trying for, then show it!.

NB it is important that your final work is created in a vector programme, like Illustrator or Freehand –?a Photoshop file will not scale with out losing quality!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Knight and Lettering look good but the Horse looks kinda wrong somehow!. I think you just need to work a little more on what you have going there!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't really like it!. A logo should be simple!. It is supposed to be a symbol, yours looks more like an advertisement!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
