Yes, Photoshop Elements 6!.0 is a good photo editor!. Yes, you can use it to combine photos and use chromakey backgrounds to change the photo!. It has very good selection tools (which you will want to use for chromakey)!.

Some of the key features!.!.!. too many to list!.
Look at it like this!.!.!. it's a light version of Photoshop and can do about 90% of what photoshop can do - especially for photographers!.

PSE can even be extended to use actions (although it can't use all actions!.!.!. The actions it can use have to be created and modified with PSE in mind)!. You can get more info on actions in PSE at a web site I've seen (http://www!.ezactions!.com)!.

Anyways!.!.!. Yes, it is better than pretty good!.!.!. I recommend it often!

PS - People pay money for Photoshop becuase it is a standard in graphic tools!. Elements allows people to become familiar with the Adobe interfaces so that if you ever need to move to the full featured Photoshop - it will be a lot easier!. No intent on knocking Gimp, or MS Digital, or Paintshop Pro, or any other photo editor!.!.!. they all have things that they do well and they all have their advantages!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I've been with Photoshop Elements since version 2!.0!. I recently upgraded to 6!.0 when the price dropped so much!. Of course, the price dropped because v!.7!.0 just came out!. I was very happy with v!.5!.0 and would probably have been happy with that, now that I see the minor tweaks made in v!.6!.0!. I wrote a stock answer about v!.5!.0 which I have not posted in quite a while, so you're the lucky winner!.

Photoshop Elements 5!.0

If you want to explore the world of Adobe Photoshop without spending the big money for the full product, get Photoshop Elements!. It is a tremendously powerful program and it only sells for $99!.00!. You can get it at http://www!.adobe!.com or any of the usual places you buy software!. I am still using Photoshop Elements 5!.0, but PE 6!.0 is now out and Adobe claims that it has enhanced Brightness/Contrast tools, Clone tool and Black and White Conversion tool!. The other enhancements seem to deal with merging photos (panoramic stitching) and organizing your photos!.

You can use it practically right out of the box with the "Quick Fix" option and then you can advance into the full program, learning TONS about the Photoshop world as you go!. Frankly, I think most casual users would never explore the full capabilities of Photoshop Elements!. If you are ever ready for more, you will already know much of what you need to know about using "real" Photoshop!.

Just go here http://www!.adobe!.com/products/photoshope!.!.!. and click "Free Trial" for a 30-day free trial!.

Almost every single image on my Flickr site was processed with Photoshop Elements 5!.0!. Some have from zero to barely any post-processing at all and others have considerable amount of perspective alterations, saturation changes, etc!., and these are specified under the picture most of the time!.

There is not a lot he could have done at the scene to make it better!. I mean, when the sun sets - there are shadows!.
Here's my "after" version created with "only" Photoshop Elements 5!.0: http://www!.flickr!.com/photos/samfeinstei!.!.!.
This is not a "great" job, but it shows that Photoshop Elements is not just a toy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
