If you are using a 35mm camera with a focal plane shutter, which virtually all Minolta SLR camera models used you need to use the X synchronization contact (or switch if there is only one contact) and you need to set the shutter speed to the "X" sync speed setting (or lower)!. Not setting that correctly is what will cause the images to be cut off but, on occasion, having a lens hood or other accessory attached or a strap or finger in front of the flash tube will cause an unwanted shadow!.

The correct shutter speed on Minolta speed setting dials is USUALLY designated by a RED shutter speed number and is most often 60 but sometimes 125 and on some electronic shutter models is a separate "X" setting!.

Not having the correct shutter speed will result in underexposed images which will account for a lot of the grain and trying to take pictures of subjects too far from the camera will also cause underexposure!. That can be corrected to some degree by getting a more powerful flash, using faster (Higher ISO) film or both!.

Sometimes when you use a flash and the pictures come out half lit and half not lit!. It's because something was in the way of the flash!. Meaning an object could have been standing in the way of the flash to light up the whole picture of the bride (person/object does not need to be in the picture to block the light!.)

This object could be your finger or something on you to block the flash!. Or simply something standing in front of you but not in your view to take the picture, but was in the view for the flash to spread out to light up the subject!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What is your shutter speed!? Sometimes when the shutter speed does not match the sync speeds of the flash you get partially lit and partially dark photos as the slit in the focal plane shutter is moving across the frame but the strobe does not light its full travel on the frame of the film!. Aslo what ISO film are you using !?Www@QuestionHome@Com

What kind of flash are you using!? There is something round on the right side creating a shadow, causing underexposure!. Your flash is so far to the left!.!.look at those shadows! You need a strobe on a bracket over your lens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You could have a bit of dirt in the lens or something is wrong with the flash send 1 of the pictures to bdarian@rocketmail!.com
