People don't understand and think it is a crime when it's art!. I totally agree with you!. If Freda Khalo painted her artwork on walls and abandoned houses would people still call it criminal damage!? People are just ignorant !. Www@QuestionHome@Com

NO, people like you who think you have the right to go out and paint someone's wall, are selfish!. i would not consider you an artist at all, an artist goes out of there way to do a painting and present it to the world!. you go out and paint on a place not meant for you!. go get a canvas and then show the world!. people like you need to get your priorities straight and NO the people don't love you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

graffiti is vandalism, the recognition is negative!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah sometimes i wonder the same thing!.!.

But there's a lot of them who are toy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I love graffiti art, and love seeing it on trains, buildings and in public places!. I feel it is beautiful and monumental to have urban art visible for all to see!.

That said, not everybody feels the same way about it!.

It is considered vandalism and destruction of somebody else's property!. If it is on public property, it is considered vandalism and destruction of public property!.

If the graffiti art, for the most part, ended up on mediums that weren't considered a violation of property, then it probably would receive much more acclaimed recognition!. (Such as canvas or a building that the owner commissioned for art to be put onto!.)

Add to this the fact that spray-paint graffiti is sometimes used for gang tagging to mark territories, it has the frightening negatives associated with gang warfare and violence attached to it for some!. Nobody wants to live in a tagged-up neighborhood, because it means that there are also likely shootings every other night between warring gangs!.

also, do graffiti artists really sign their art in such a way to be recognizable!? You can't really be recognized (or want to be) if you don't sign your art!. Heck, if anybody knew who it actually was they'd probably spend a few days with spray paint remover at the order of the courts!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your guys ARE awesome artists, no doubt about it! The reason that you unfortunately don't get the respect, is because yes, you beautify the walls, etc, but it was done without getting the permission from the owner of the business or whatever!. If a artist is not respecting public property then it makes it harder for others to respect them!.
I personally, think it would be awesome if an artist made a deal with a business owner to claim a wall and decorate it for the business and have a deal that you can make changes to it on an ongoing bases!. Of course, a business would want it to be something that would attract others to their building and not turn them away because of the artists choice of subject matter!.
also it is sad but true, so graffiti artists do use fences of homeowners and homeowner's walls, as well as other places that do not bring respect!.
I hope this all makes sense to you!. I really want to help, because you guys ARE super artists! Best wishes to ya!Www@QuestionHome@Com

about 95% of graffi isn't art, at least it's nothing I'd like to have on my wall!. I'd be willing to pay for somebody to paint a mural on my wall, but it will be the artist of my choice, not a random person with no drawing skill whatsoever!. If you want to be taking seriously as a graffiti artist take some drawing classes!. Most people who do graffiti (particularly taggers) can't draw, can't make a composition, have nothing much to say!. The result of their "work" is not beautification but "uglification", a blank wall looks better, sad to say!. That's why!.
Most artists who draw on pieces of paper or canvas don't get paid either, just a few do, and those work really hard at their job!. They spend years developing their skills before anybody is even interested in paying them!.
If you want to get taken seriously as a graffiti artist make sure you have superior skills!. Respect has to be earned, you don't get it for nothing!.
Please be aware that if an artist participates in an art show they will have gone through a jury process, most get rejected!. If graffiti would go through a jury process it would be much more popular and much less crap among it!. If somebody paints over graffiti you've done or removes it, it basically means you failed the jury process!. Why should you get away with a lower standard!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
