A pro!? If you say so!.

You can get the Canon 580 EX II, or a used 580 EX, or 550 EX and then learn how to use it!. All are very competent flashes have more features than you will ever use and put out more light than you probably will ever need!.

If you really want the 'best', you can check out the mecablitz 76 MZ-5!. At about $1000!.00 USD, it costs a lot more than your camera!.

You can get lithium or NiCad for any of the flashes!. Most of us use a battery pack!. The one I use powers both the flash and the camera and will get me through something like a wedding (800 - 1000 shots) without a problem and the flash recycle time is a consistent 2 seconds for all shots!. Add on another $350!.00 or more for that!.

Knock yourself out!.

Both "speed gun" and "flash gun" are very old terms!. On the other hand, if you still call LED, pen and flash lights "torches" then I understand

Flash units and electronic flash is the more modern term!. More common names are external flash and studio flash !.!.!. while studio strobes are mentioned from time to time, strobes are what scientists use to study motion and involves a darkened room with ir triggers with the cameras shutter open during the full exposure!.

Okay!.

Here is the deal!. Canon DSLR's can only stand a trigger voltage of 6v or less!. ANY flash you connect to your fine 400D that has a trigger flash of over 6v, you risk frying your cameras electronics!.

So here is the deal 2 !.!.!. unless you buy an external flash unit that is a dedicated Canon external flash OR you buy a Pocket Wizard to trigger studio flash units, you are running the risk of not only damaging your camera, but violating the terms of your cameras warranty!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

How can you call yourself a "professional photographer" and ask a question like that !?
The "best" for what !? You don't even say what you want to use it for, how powerful you want it to be, if you want to use it off the camera or what price range you can afford!.
Most amateur photographers would even know to mention any of those points when asking about flashguns so please don't try kidding anyone that you're a "professional" except perhaps yourself!.
Was that honest enough for you !? :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Honestly, I think you confuse "professional" with "learner"!. All professionals know their flash its key for lighting in most/many situations from wedding to studio!.

Get a Canon flash and be done with it!.

Buy the Canon 580EX II Speedlight!. Check with Canon to find out which off-camera cable will be needed to maintain TTL capability and then buy a good flash bracket!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
