Question: I'm planning on doing some self-portrait photographs this weekend!. I'm planning on using infinity!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!?
I have never used infinity to do self-portraits but figure this is the only way to get a sharp image since I won't be able to focus on myself!. Since everything will be in focus is their a way in photoshop to make it appear to have a shallower depth of field!? I'd like to do some self-portraits with a 2!.8 of 4 f/stop but am pretty sure that the image will be blurry since even if I pre-focus on the background I'll still be out of focus!. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do a self-portrait with a larger f/stop or to get that effect in photoshop!. Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I assume you will be using a tripod, right!? As someone else said, put some type of mark on the ground, then take your camera with you and stand in the spot!. Then focus on your tripod where you will mount the camera!. When you have focused on the tripod, set the focus to manual!. Mount the camera on the tripod, start the timer, then go stand in your marked spot!.

One!. Does your camera have a setting where it will focus on timer mode immediately before taking the picture!?

Two!. If not the first one, can you stand next to something that you can focus on prior to you moving to that position!? Or can you have someone stand there as a proxy prior to you moving to that position!?

Three!. Select everything but you in Photoshop and apply a blur or Gaussian Blur!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Put a marker - a rock, an X taped on the ground, anything and have someone stand at the same distance where you will be standing!. Then focus on them!. Then stand at the same place (which is why you need a marker on the ground) and you should be in focus!. This is how I've done it when I use completely manual film cameras and I want someone to take a picture of me!. A lot of my friends don't know how to use a manual camera, so I just set the aperture, focus, and shutter speed myself and all they have to do is fire the shutter!.

If you're going to be out by yourself, and you're using a timer on the camera, then like DCReed said, just put some kind of object that you can focus on before you stand there!. Put a marker on the ground and put some some kind of object with a vertical line that you can focus on!.

By the way, f/4 or f/5!.6 should be enough to have a selective focus effect (blurred background)!. I don't think you need to open the aperture to f/2!.8!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
