Question: Chalk & Soft Pastels!?
Are chalk pastels the same as soft pastels!?

I'm looking at buying some chalk pastels which I've been using at school lately and all I can seem to find are oil and soft pastels and I haven't seen any chalk pastels yet, so I was just wondering if chalk and soft pastels are the same at all!? Or similar even!?

Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most pastels come in a variety of colours, the difference between chalk pastels and oil pastels are the name speaks for itself!.

Chalk Pastels are chalk based mediums, more of a powdery substance compressed, displaying different and a variety of hues!.

Oil Pastels are oil based mediums, more of a oily substance compressed into a solid!. Like the chalk pastel it also come in a variety of colours!.

Soft pastels is only the grade of both chalk and oil pastels!. You can use different grade of pastel from hard which will give you a lighter application to your art work or softer grades which hues will give you darker hues!.

Any paper above 30lb will work well with pastels, it mainly depends on what you are trying to accomplish!. Coloured paper enhances the quality of your pastels!.
