Whether your camera is five, eight or ten mp, you can make your photograph look more professional in two easy ways!.

The first is to think before you press the 'button', have a look around the screen, could the composition be better!?, would a different angle look better!? could the lighting be better!? is there a bin where you don't want one to be included!?

Secondly, you have a computer, juggle with the 'cropping', also you can adjust the exposure, contrast and colour balance quite easily!.

Lastly, why not join your local photographic club, every professional I know has done this at some time or another, it's a great way to learn and share experiences!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It doesn't matter how many megapixels a camera has, it is down to the individual pressing the shutter button!.It also depends on what you mean by "professional"!.
Do you mean lighting, composition, subject matter or what!.

It also depends on what the picture is of and for!.

Basics are, get the exposure right!. Don't stick to Auto mode but learn about light and exposure and you will see a difference in your shots!.

Ensure that the picture is not "cluttered" (unless intentional) and that the subject jumps out at you!. Do this by varying your position not just taking the same picture from the same place as everyone else!.

Learn a little about composition, you don't have to stick to the "rule of thirds" but it is helpful to know what it is about in the first place!.

Don't rush, take your time composing and looking at the scene before pressing the shutter!.

Buy a couple of general photography books and have a look through the newsagents shelves for photography magazines which always have articles on getting better pictures!.

Lighting!. Proper lighting is the key to make an amateur photo look professional, especially indoors!.

There are hudreds of articles and books you can read on the subject, but just from an absolute basics standpoint keep these points in mind!.

-Never use mixed light!. Combining sunlight with incadescent (normal light bulbs) light makes people look terrible and unaturally colored!. Same with mixing florescent with incandescent!. Try to use the came kind of light sources to light the picture!.

- 3 point lighting!. It's the corner stone of subject-based photography!. In it you use three light sources to illuminate your subject!. A "Key" light which is your main light!. When shooting a person you would place the key light in front of them two the left or right, so it is shining on one side of their face!.

Second is a "Fill" light, which is placed on the opposite side of their face to fill-in the shadows the key creates!. The fill should be dimmer than the key, if you can't physically dim it, just move the light further back from the source!.

Last is the "back" light, which is put behind the subject!. This does two things!. It sets the subject apart from the background, and it creates halo of light around the subject, making it really pop in the photo!.

Ideally all light should be overhead, shining down from a 45 degree angle, but of course that's not always possible!. In not, place the back light at an angle behind th esubject so that its not in the picture!.

Most importantly, have fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com
