I would think the fact that it is a medium format camera with all the attributable increase in lens design and manufacturing cost as well as the much larger digital sensor used on a medium format camera would be self expiatory!.

Decent P&S non-pro camera (small sensor and fixed lens) = about $250
A Pro DSLR with lens (a sensor that is 30 times larger than a P&S camera) = about $8500
Mamiya 645 digital (larger sensor still) = about $10,000
Hasselblad digital (50 mp Kodak sensor) = around $40,000

So you see, as the format gets larger the costs go up!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In all forms of tangible items, there are the very best, for whatever real or imagined reasons!. Is a Ferrari that much better than a Chevy Cobalt!? Is a Rolex watch that much better than a Timex!? Is a Rembrant painting that much better than what is done by a local artist!? Is Tiffiny jewelry that much better than what is sold in a local jewelry store!?

Yes, they all consist of the very best that the manufacturers can produce, and are for discriminating users that also happen to have the money to buy them!.

There will always be the Hasselblads of the world!. Most people cannot pay the price, but for the real world, most people don't really need it!.

Just as Perfect Myspace Avitar Kat said quality materials and workmanship costs money, a medium format digital sensor cost money and yes as with any other product you pay some for the reputation of the company!. Are they worh it !? I'd say yes they deliver what they say they will time and time again I wish I could own one but on a firefighters salary its not gonna happen!.
