Get yourself a tripod and remote shutter release or use the self timer!. Do not hold the camera in front of your face, or it will be distorted by the wide-ish lens being too close to your face!. Have some sort of light source, preferrably a window and shoot away until you get the shot right!. Do not have someone else take it - as another answer indicated you should do!. It wouldn't be a "self" portrait if someone else took it!.!.!.!. Feel free to use a mirror, many people do!. Only holding the camera in front of a mirror is cliche!. That's why tripods are essential, you won't have to hold the camera to do the self-portrait, and frees you to be more creative in posing and composition!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it depends on your face shape or what effect you want the picture to have (e!.g make you look small, tall) what features do you want it to emphasize about your face!? Do you have nice eyes, teeth, nose, lips!? do you want it to focus on other things as well like something in the background or mainly on you!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

First, learn how to use your camera and take good shots of other people!. This site (http://www!.professionalphotography101!.co!.!.!. is a good place to start!.

Next, if you camera has a self-timer you should learn how to activate it, and you'll also need to learn how to get into position quickly while staying perfectly still once in place!.

This will make your pictures good, and even great if you're particularly talented--but if you want a professional photo, you'll need a professional camera!. If you don't have one and don't really want to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on one, just go to a studio for a portrait!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

have someone else take it!. No myspace pics, please!!!

You could find a nice backdrop, or hire a professional for a low fee!. Most are willing to negotiate pricing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
