Pouncing is a traditional technique for transferring a drawing onto another surface, either a canvas or wall etc, and was the technique Michelangelo (as an example) used to transfer his full scale drawings onto the ceiling of the sistine chapel!.

First the artist makes a line drawing of their image on paper, before following these lines with a sharp tool making small holes along its lengths!. This paper outline is then taped to the wall or canvas, before you use your shakers and felt pad to "pounce" over the holes, forcing the powder inside through the holes in the paper and onto the wall!.

Turning the shaker upside down will apply pigment powder, or chalk inside the shaker to the felt pad, then you use a dabbing motion over the holes to push the powder through!. When you remove the paper from the wall or canvas you should be left with a series of small dots following the lines of the original drawing which can then be used as guidelines for the painting!.

So yes, this technique could be used for airbrushing ir draughting, or any other way of making an image and is mostly used on larger scale images!.
