Love the photo!. Sharpening is partly a matter of personal taste!. I'd say the sharpening is fine, although you could actually have got away with a little less!.

Forgive me for offering some criticism uninvited, but I think the real problem with the photo is not the level of sharpening, but the fact that the focus appears to be on the lion's nose rather than the eyes!. The effect is only very subtle but the photo loses some impact because of it!. I think maybe this is why you've been struggling to apply the right amount of sharpening!?

I think my tiger shot actually suffers a little fom the same problem, but the two monkeys (third in the gallery) is a good example of using critical focus!.
