This answer is for 35mm film, but the other formats are similar!. You need to rewind the film all the way, then open the camera back and take out the film canister!.

You need a film reel and a developing can, and some chemicals (see link below)!.

You need to go into TOTAL DARKNESS - a red light will not work - and open up the film canister using a regular bottle-opener!. Take the film out and wind it around the stainless steel reel!. It's not a bad idea to practice with some old film in the light first; this is tough to do in the dark unless you have done it before!.

Some people do this process inside a black bag - there are bags that are light-proof that you can put your arms in so you don't have to hang out in the closet!.

Once the film is wound around the reel, put the reel into the developer can, close the lid tight, and you can come out into the light again!.

Next, you need to use some chemical baths!. Time and temperature are critical; different developer processes have different requirements, but it's basically a three step process - developer, then a "stop" agent, then a "fixer" at the end!. I think there's also a rinsing agent that you can use to prevent waterspots!.

Once you've gone through the above process, it is safe to remove the negatives and hang them up to dry in full lightWww@QuestionHome@Com

The rinsing agent the first person mention is called Photo Flo and is is used after the film has washed !. You put a capful in about 1 liter water and dip the film in for about 30 seconds!. Speeds the drying time and keeps waterspots from forming!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
