no it's free, but it's better if you pay!.
If you pay, the thumbnails are bigger when you browse!. You get to see comments you have received in your message center!. There's a lot more, but just look on the front page of DeviantArt and it will tell you everything you get with a subscription!. You can tell if people have a subscription or not by their names!. No!. It's completely free unless you want to upgrade!. I'm not sure of the upgrades, but I re-made a DeviantART a few days ago!.
