But, in defense, this may have been taken out of context, I'm not sure how the phrase was intended!. In a much greater sense, any color, if isolated, may be 'neutral,' if employed as a completely saturating entity or exclusive experience!. It then becomes 'a given,' as there exists no conflict with another color, it is at once, by the broad definition, 'neutral!.' It is a primary because it, like the other two, cannot be mixed by combining any combination of any of the other colours of the rainbow!. Greys are considered neutral colours; although technically they don't have any 'colour' in them (neither black nor white is considered a colour)!. Earth tones are also neutrals!. Earth tones are any colour that contains brown!. Therefore even red-browns, blue-browns, green-browns, etc!. qualify!. They are neutral because they work with (or 'go with') every other colour!.
