Question: How to trigger camera wirelessly!?
I have a Canon Rebel XTi and 2 Pocket Wizard MultiMAX Transceivers!. Sadly, my transceivers did not come with a manual!.

I usually use my transceivers to trigger my strobes, but I was hoping there was a way I could use them to trigger my camera too!.

I tried attatching one to my camera and setting it on recieve, and kept one in my hand and set it on transmit!. I hit the test button, but nothing happened!. I made sure they were both on the same channel too!.

Anyone know how to do this, or if it's even possible!? I thought it was!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, it is possible!. Do you have the right cable!? Unfortunately, you can't just attatch the pocket wizard to the hot shoe of your camera and have it work!. Just like attatching it to your strobe, you need a cable!. To trigger your camera, you'll need to use a motor drive cable (electronic shutter release cable)!. The Rebels use the 804-509 CM-E3!.

If you do have the right cable and it's still not working then your pocket wizards or your camera might be damaged!. In that case, you might want to take them to a camera repair shop!.

There are also instruction manuals avaiable on Pocket Wizard's website here http://www!.pocketwizard!.com/HTML/manuals!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

IF it would be possible, just where on the canon are you connection the slave to!.!.!?

If it would be possible, I would think you would need a electronic cable release cord (and socket on the camera for such) and attach the cord to the slave, as you would a strobe!. Thus, when you fire the master, the slave is thinking it is tripping a flash, but instead, hopefully, it will trip the camera's shutter instead!.

Now, if all these - IF's - are in place, how about voltage compatability!.!.!? Your dealing with fine tuned electronics and something as small as 1 volt could mess things up something bad!.

The biggest hurdle is - does your camera have a remote triggering socket!.!.!? A place for a electronic cable release!.!.!? If so, you may be able to come up with something even if not the remotes you have in hand!.

I think the pocket wizards are designed purely to trigger strobes (could be mistaken though!)!.!.!.!. You'll need a purpose built wireless shutter release for the Canon Rebel!.!.!.

I'm a Nikon owner !.!.!. I need an IR remote to trigger my D70s and a Wireless RF remote to trigger my D3, so your remote will probably have to be specifically for the Rebel XTi!.

Check out ebay for a unit!.!.!.!. they are usually available quite cheaply!.

{Edit} Yep!.!.!.!.I stand corrected !.!.!.!. I am mistaken! You can use the pocket wizard for triggering the camera! You just need an extra cable for the shutter release! I've always just used them for triggering the studio flash units!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
