There is a setting on digital cameras called "Macro," which can focus on things that are only a few millimeters away!. No zoom necessary; if you need to take close-ups from far away, this won't turn out very good without any more expensive equipment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

With the camera you have there are some things you can do!. Keep in mind that every lens has a minimum focus distance!. If you get closer to the object than the minimum focus distance, your photo will be exactly as you describe!.

Try moving just a little farther from the object you want to photograph!. This can be as little as an inch or two!.

Take several shots at various distances and try to remember those distances!.

When you do get a well focused shot, you can used your photo editor to crop it to just the way you want the photo composed!.

Sometimes, using the zoom is the way to get your shot even in the macro mode!. Try it with and without using the zoom!.

You may have already guessed that experimentation is key to learning the best way to use your camera within its limits!. Keep trying and you'll get some really good shots!.

Don't worry too much about getting more capable, and much more expensive, equipment right now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First off the problem is the camera!. Kodaks are not known for taking very good pictures in the first place, let alone up close!. The best are canon and panasonic!. Their lenses are far better!. However for your situation, is it in macro mode, it will be the flower symbol!. that will be the only thing you can probably do, unless there is an automatic scene setting for up close pictures!. Kodaks have horrible user manuals in the box, you can get a much more detailed one on their website!. Go to best buy and have someone show you the digital macro mode on a canon!. You will want it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sounds like your camera has an auto focus!. If it doesn't want to focus on what you like, try picking something bigger at roughly the same distance!. Usually, you'll see a square appear when it's got the focus!. Then, while holding the camera in focus, you point it back to your original subject!. If it still doesn't work, get a better camera!. Those point and shoots are annoying when they don't cooperate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You will need a macro lens if it has interchangeable lenses or a "close up" or macro attachment!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If there is a macro setting on the camera use that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
