Question: I'm interested in majoring in Graphic Designing/Fine Arts but !. !. !. How can I get ahead of the chumps!?
I hear that its a very competitive field, and I don't want to move around from place to place to make a decent buck!. I am visually creative, I don't draw very well; But I can visually see what I want to create, I can easily explain my vision in words and have roughly about two years of experience on Photoshop and CSS!. I'm a high school senior, and I have to figure out what I want to do fast!. Lastly, I've seen work from some "Professional" Graphic Designers, and I can easily do what they do plus more and but that is just me playing around with Abode software!.

If I go into Graphic Designing, is there something I can minor in that would put me ahead of other Graphic Designers!?
I want to more marketable!.

Thank you in advance!

It is VERY competitive!. I have many graphic designers in my circle of friends!. The way to get ahead is to minor in art!. Many graphic designers are like you are now, they can't really draw, and are really better at the collage method of graphic design!. Being able to draw with traditional media will help you do quick rough sketches, and make your more well rounded!. Try not to get stuck in "your" style of graphic design, you need to be very versatile!. You need to learn Illustrator, InDesign, CS, having a web design background will be helpful too!.
Advertising would also be a good minor, but I can't stress enough getting the art background!. My friends that have the art background are more successful than the ones that don't, and the one that is the most successful is the most versatile!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
