Question: I am a painter, working in a pink studio!. Can't decide if its the walls, or my lighting thats throwing me off!?

My colors in my paintings look great in here, but when i step outside with my work, everything I have worked on looks dingy, the colors look dim, and very inaccurate!. I am wondering if I should re-paint the walls, or change my lighting!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

the walls and the lighting are probably both affecting your perception, the lighting reflects off the color of the walls and that affects the way in which you see the colors and the overall outcome of the painting!. I suggest using floodlights (they are brighter and less yellow lights), and painting the walls white, be sure it's not off-white because that can affect the colors too!. hope this helps! ^_^Www@QuestionHome@Com

You answered your own question :) When you step outside and look at your work, it looks different!. It is the color of the walls affecting the colors you choose to put on canvas!. All the painters I know have white-walled studios with bright, bright daylight-type overhead florescent lighting!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think its the pink walls that reflect to the lights making the colors look to way off!. Maybe a light blue or a white would look better on the walls!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try a neutral color for your walls!. An off white color would probably work best!. Thats why galleries never use loud colors on the walls they exhibit work on!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
