I am in no way an experienced judge or anything, so I don't have a *background*, but I do know what I like!. I can generally tell if a person requesting a critique has any skill behind the camera because I've seen what great work looks like!. One only has to go here - http://www!.onexposure!.net/ - and I know what I like to look at!. So when I look at many of the images on that website, I am transported into the images that hold the most impact to me!. Not that I compare everything I see to that standard, but you really have to have a point of reference when critiquing anonymous images asking for a true opinion!. If I look at an image and it does nothing for me, visually, I'm generally quite vocal about why!. But sometimes it is necessary to look at an image for what it is, so I try to do so as much as possible for those images I know aren't as technically perfect as those found on onexposure!. But, I'm no expert - not that I wish to be anyway!. If I like what I see, I say so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it is "art" 50% technique and 50% creative content!.

If it is to be used commercially, 100% does it suit the theme or requirements of the assignment!? !.!. the two conditions above are a given!.

As with any image, one must ask if it has the ability to capture the viewers eye for longer than just a glance!. Does the viewer feel compelled to keep returning to the image and spend more time looking deeper into is subjective, implied or subliminal content!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

background, schooling and making a living recording things for people - as a judge or critic nothing,

i can only really comment on the basics like exposure and composition, if a peice is over my head or plain brilliant then i tend to just give amiration, - sometimes i dont realise its over my head!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.if there are obvious issues (to me) then i will mention them in a way to offer improvement for future efforts---- eg for 3minute exposures use a tripod in future!.!.!.!.!.!.
