Nathan, why mention a portrait lens!? He didn't ask about portraits!. The sample was not a portrait!. Oh well!.

The sample you linked was taken with a 12mm lens on a Canon digital SLR, so you would be right in the ballpark with the 11-16 lens!.

The others are right about the functionality of the lens on the D40, but go for it!. Photographers did not need autofocus for the first 100 years or so of the craft and neither do you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A few things we might want to clear up!. This lens, the 11-16mm Tokina will give you a wider angle of view; and very deep depth of field!. This lens is really suited for photojournalist purposes, but can be used for landscapes as well!. The lens can be used with the D40, however, it will not auto focus!. But this is a set-back you can easily overcome when photographing landscapes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The lens will mount properly, meter properly, work with the flash properly and send information back to the camera properly!. It will not autofocus!. You will have to focus it manually which is really not a big deal!. with the D40, D40x and D60, pull the focus ring towards you to get manual focus, then turn the focus ring and look for the focus confirmation dotWww@QuestionHome@Com

They make this lens both for Nikon and for Canon!.

this one is for the Nikon though, which i discovered when i was reading the article!. It will work on your camera, however, it's not the best portrait lens!. For that, you'll need a faster lens, like the 50mm f/1!.8
