This painting is by American 19th century painter Thomas Cole!. It is called The Destruction of Empire!. It is part of a five part series of paintings depicting the growth and fall of an imaginary city, a probable reference to the rise and fall of ancient Greece!.
The statue is therefore not of a real person, but is the fruit of Cole's imagination, as are all the other details, including the storm in the background!. See this picture and others in this series and descriptions of all of them http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/The_Course_!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It may not be a real statue!. It may only exist in this painting!. It has some qualities in common with a couple of different statues of Roman generals, but without a head and without a better view it would be hard to say for sure!. If you know the painters name and the name of the painting you can look for photos of the site, assuming it is real and not made up by the painter!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Often see Mercury with a shield, but no winged feet at the archilles heel!. It looks like an AWESOME picture!? Wher'd ya get it!?
