Question: Top art schools in US!?
I'm trying to decide what I would like to do as a career!. And I know I would like to do something with art involved therefore I would like to know some of the best art schools available!. I was looking at SCAD, and I've heard of Rhode Island School of Design!. I know competition is tough and I don't know if I'm good enough!.

Here is a collage of some of my work from 9th-10th grade, I've gotten better and I'm working on improving!. Most of my work there is acrylic besides the charcoal piece!.

Tell me what you think!.

Thanks!.

I went to RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) and I would definitely recommend it!. Other schools that are up there, at least on my list: Art Center College of Design(Pasadena, CA), School of Visual Arts (NYC), California College of the Arts (Sacramento!?), Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, IL), Yale Art School (New Haven!?, CT)

Others that sound interesting: Minneapolis College of Art and Design(Minneapolis, MN), MassArt (Boston, MA)

Try to get an idea of what you want to do after you graduate; each school has different strengths and/or weaknesses!. Do you want to do something more with graphic arts (i!.e!. graphic design, illustration, industrial/product design), or are you more interested in the fine arts world!? (painting, sculpture, glass, etc) Is film a possibility (either experimental, formal, animation, etc)!. The school you pick should also reflect how you feel about art!. Some schools focus more on traditional techniques, some focus on innovation in concepts and the thinking behind the art!.

As far as the artwork you posted, I think you've got a good start!. I like the level of detail in the picture at the top left with the dress!. Proportions look pretty good on the painting of the girl in the red vest!. Some recommendations: try mixing colors more!. It seems like you are getting light and dark values from adding black or white to the color you are using!. Instead, add the complementary color to create a darker value!. This creates a richer, and often more realistic color scheme!. Experiment more!. Be a bit looser with the way you paint and let your brushstrokes show more, at least on a couple of paintings!. A lot of your paintings seem to be made with hard edges!. Try a couple of paintings where you are taking the time to fully model the face with light, dark, and a range of medium values to give the illusion of three dimensions!.

You've got the talent, you just need to push your abilities a bit further and you'll be creating some cool art :)

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com
