on a scale of 1-10, how realistic does this look!? i just started drawing after 3 months of doing nothing and this is what i came up with!. keep in mind that im only 15 so dont be too harsh with the critique!.!. actually, be harsh (in a nice way) cuz i really need to know what to do to become a better artist!. id appreciate any tips of making this more realistic andddd umm click on the actual drawing to enlarge it thanksWww@QuestionHome@Com Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You're right, human faces are asymmetrical, So it is okay that her ear is higher!. I hope you don't mind but I snooped around the rest of your deviant art page to get a better idea of how you approach your drawings!. My one major critique is that your faces tend to flatten out, which is really common and hard not to do when drawing from photos!. Try on your next portrait to think of the three dimensional face, not just the photo!. Honestly a lot of the problem lies not in your drawing skills, but in modern photography!. They really blow out people's faces now days and then airbrush them away, so it is hard to see the actual structure of the face!. You may want to try drawing from old Hollywood portraits for a while, (as well as from life) just because there is more interesting lighting!. As far as the rendering is concerned, I can see that you understand the major principles, some of it just needs a little more patience!. For instance, on the right side of her face, you went to dark to fast, and it looks like you burned the paper a bit with your pencil!. This is what gives it that smudgy look!. also, her nostril area looks more graphic than realistic because your shading ends so abruptly!. It's okay to go that dark, but fade it out a little more to prevent it from looking like solid lines!. The last thing is the hair!. I can see that you approach hair differently in your drawings, sometimes with better effect!. The main idea is to approach hair as shapes rather than individual strands!. This is true of drawing in general; looking at objects as a series of shapes!. When you think of hair as a group of shapes, you can approach the highlights and shadows more accurately!. In the end you can throw back in some of the strands!. I hope this doesn't seem too overwhelming, I only wrote so much because I believe you are well on your way, and I think you can handle this form of critique!. BTW, I think it does look like her!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The only obvious thing that sticks out to me is that the right eye is slightly larger than the left one and the right ear is higher up than the left one!.
