Surrealist artist Renee Magritte (most well known for the C'est non un Pipe panting) made the umbrella famous in art!. The image of a single, black umbrella recurs through much of his work, especially when superimposed on his signature blue sky with clouds!. His most famous umbrella painting is probably Les vancances de Hegel, which depicts a glass of water balanced on top of one of his black umbrellas!. Various art museum gift shops sell 'Magritte umbrellas', which are black umbrella on top, blue sky underneath!.
