Gesture lines are not outlines and are not just quick sketches, though they are done quickly!. These lines show the internal motion of an object or objects!. That doesn't mean the subject has to be moving, everything, even stationary objects have a sort of 'gesture!.'

I use them to get the basic movement of the composition down, and then use the Giacometti drawing technique to get everything in the correct place!. There are many ways to use gesture lines, one just has to practice and see what can be done!.
