The best DSLR for under $500 is the Nikon D40!. But as said before, if you don't know what you're doing, you're going to come back with poor results no matter what kind of camera you are using!. You also might want to know, the real investment is in the lenses, averaging $1000 a piece!. Not to mention studio lighting, computers, software, and so on!. So, if you are serious about this, expect to pay anywhere from $5,000-$10,000!. And this is just for a basic setup!. If you are not serious, the D40 will make a nice paperweight for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For under $470 on Amazon you can buy a Nikon D40 with AF-S 18-55 mm ED lens!.

It is very capable of shooting professional images !.!.!. its only limitation is the skill of the photographer!.

nikon d40x or panasonic lumix lx2 or nikon 350d

btw, i'm just a noob but i would like these cameras too!. they're old models!.!.!. maybe you could start with an automatic point and shoot first like canon s3 IS!.!.!.
