I currently have a Nikon D3!.

I've been a full-time photographer for more than 20-years and went digital, full-time, in '96 with the Kodak EOS DCS3 (1!.3 megapixels and $15,000), then upgraded in '98 to the Canon 520!. When I changed jobs, I started with the Nikon D1, followed by the Kodak 14n, Nikon D2x, now the D3, in that order!. The one thing I've noticed through this progression is that NONE of the cameras, no matter how wonderful, made me a better photographer!. I would be the same photog now if I used the D3 or the D40!. What matters is ME, not the hunk of plastic and metal!.

Don't listen to people telling you that a "pro" camera will solve all your problems!. It won't!. Sure, they're nice to have and produce wonderful technical results, but what makes a photographer successful is not the tool, but the talent!.

If you're really set on a new camera, check out the new Nikon D700!. At about $1700 with the same processor and sensor as the D3, it's something that even pro's will be using (if that's really important to you)

p!.s!. Sorry, I meant to say that NONE of the cameras made me a better photographer, but somehow ended up saying the opposite!. I've corrected it now, but apologize to those of you thinking me an idiot!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I see a lot of motorsport pictures from various agencies world wide and I the make and model of the camera is usually in the exif data!.

The current favourite is the Nikon D3 and it seems to produce better images, especially in low light such as NASCAR night races!.

I use a canon rebel ti, and I love it!. Not really into digital!. It's not the camera that makes a good photographer!. It's what the photographer sees through the lens!. Yes, I think you have to have some what of an eye for photos, but in the end, it's the person taking the photo that has to know what to shoot!. The camera can't decide!. You know that, you're a photographer!. :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not a professional, but i'm positive professionals don't use D40s as their primary cameras, they use more expensive cameras, at least one at one thousand dollars!. The d40 is an entry-level camera, not a professional camera!. I have a d40, but that's fine because i'm an amateur!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have a Nikon D50 and I love it!. The clarity of the photos is amazing, but yet the camera is still user friendly!. I would say this is the best camera I have ever owned!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

sony, canon, nikon, mamiya, minolta, whatever is best or easiest for the job, lenses and medium are more the issue for me
