Question: Is a mechanical pencil with 0!.7mm lead #2!?
I need to know if it is number 2 and/or are all mechanical pencils number 2!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

2 refers to the hardness of the lead!. There are several hardnesses available ranging from #7H down to #2H and then to H, HB, 2B, 3B and down!. I find anything down beyond 5B to be almost liquid!.

Lead diameters range from 0!.1, 0!.15, 0!.3, 0!.5, 0!.7, 0!.9 and 1!.1!. Sometimes even larger!.

I like the 0!.5 but I have an old (1930s) Shaeffer mechanical that requires 0!.9

So, it is the lead hardness that is #2 and the 0!.7 refers to the diameter of the lead!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
