Question: How do I enlarge an image without having it lose quality!?
I have some images I'd love to turn into posters!. I've been recommended to have an image as large as possible to ensure the poster's quality and big size!.

Problem is, the images I have are on pretty low resolutions (something a little less than 600x500), and if I enlarge them, they become pixelated!.

Is there a way to enlarge them a bit more without killing the quality!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

At full printer resolution these images will print just 2" wide!. You can enlarge without pixelation by using a resampling and smoothing operation!. Photoshop can do this of course, but some freeware programs such as IrfanView will do it also!. You can't add detail, though, so it will get increasingly fuzzy-looking as you enlarge it!. How far you can go depends on how fuzzy you can tolerate it looking!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!. The enlarging process only works because the quality is diminished!. It's impossible to maintain the same quality no matter how you enlarge it!. The only way to make a poster look good is to start out with pictures that are high resolution to start with!.

600X500 looks terrible once the picture gets bigger than wallet size no matter what you do!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not really!. There are interpolation programs that can artificially "fill in the blanks", but instead of spending the $300 + for those programs, most of us shoot with our camera set at its highest resolution and in the RAW mode if we ever plan on making posters!.

It goes without saying that if you plan on making posters for a living, you will budget for a full frame DSLR like the Nikon D3 ($5,000) or D700 ($3,000) or the Canon 1Ds Mark III ($8,000) or 5D ($2,400)

They are the tools of the trade!. You certainly would not buy a Yugo if you expect to win at NASCARWww@QuestionHome@Com

im afraid not!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
