Yeah, i think a dummies book is in order ( you're not a dummie, that's just the name of the books, they are very helpful ) This is the dummies book that i am reading now, it's very helpful for amateurs like me:

http://www!.amazon!.com/Digital-Cameras-Ph!.!.!.

This is an amazing book, written by a professional photographer!. Everything you ever need to know is in there from shooting in RAW to photographing different things, and using the different modes!.

You really should get this book, it really showed me a few things!. If you don't want to buy it, i can mail it to you when i finish with it!. also, manual mode takes in the field practice!. I learned the manual mode just by messing around and manipulating the different f stops, and shutter speeds!. Would be interested in me sending you the book!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Books are always good!.

The way I learned to use manual was to always start with something automatic!. Automatic just means the camera is figuring out the exposure, not you!. If I liked the composition on something in an automatic mode, and the camera was showing a shutter speed of 1/60 and an aperture of F5!.6, I'd take the picture, put it in manual mode, and the over-expose and under-expose a bit to see what happens!. In the above case, I might shoot 1/60 and F4 then shoot 1/60 F8!. That's also called bracketing!. It helps insure you get a shot you like!. If your camera permits, you don't need to go a full stop over or under!.

Good luck!
