Lust For Life about Van Gogh epitomises this genre!. You really won't learn anything about are by watching them!. Basquiat is the exception to the rule basically because the film was made by his friend and fellow artist Julian Schnabel!. A really great documentary film about artists talking about their own work is "Painters Painting" (1972) Director: Emile de Antonio!. This focuses on the main players in US art scene at the time and is a fascinating incite into what it is to be creative!. An Unmarried Woman !. !. !. !. (1978 Jill Clayburg and Alan Bates) is more about a woman's journey to independence following a bad marital break-up, but the art angle and the art scene is delightful!.
