Hi! Talk about confusing! Part of the problem
is that the artist also went by the names of Antoon,
Anthonius, Anthonis, Mor van Dashorst, Antonio
Moro, Antonio Mor, Anthony More, Anthonis More,
and more!.
I found basically the same information from
three different sources:
Quote;
!.!.!.by Antonio Moro, which has a long and interesting history!. Its present owner, Mr!. Charles F!. Gunther, of Chicago, claims for this portrait that it was painted during the years 1543-1545, when Moro made his first visit to the court of Madrid, and that it is based upon a miniature for which Christopher Columbus himself "undoubtedly sat!." The evidence for these assertions seems to be mainly traditional, but it was accepted by Washington Irving, who chose the Moro work for the frontispiece of his "Life and Times of Christopher Columbus!.!.!.
It is painted on wood and is about two feet by three feet!." And a very detailed description of the intricate frame that was made the same time as the painting!.!.!. (Read below)
Then this:
!.!.!.the piece is from the portrait by
Antonis van Mor, painted in 1542,
from two miniatures in the Palace of
the Prado!.
And, then this:
'Lent by Charles Gunther!."

If it has remained in the ownership of subsequent
generations of this family and they wish to remain
private, the information will not be found!.
I would contact the Prado!. If it's in a public venue, they
will know (though I've searched and found not a single
citation) and may confirm private ownership, as well!.
I hope this helped some:)
