Question: What is a great drawing exercise!?
I want to pick up drawing, and I'm okay but I need practice!. I find it difficult to sit down and look at a blank sheet of paper!. Should I just draw circles, cones and cubes over and over again or something!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on what you are weak at or want to improve on!. But you can try continuous sketches where the pencil doesn't leave the page!. Sketches in general are great but you never should do it detailed because it helps you attain more control of your hands!. If you are doing spheres and squares you might want to work on shading tecniques because you're going to have to do them eventually in your drawings especially with graphite!. My art teacher had me do shading scales where you start of with either the darkest tone or lightest and gradually go the opposite!. The point is to practice blending with darker and lighter tones and make the transition from dark to light look as smooth as possible!. also work on crosshatches and other ways to shade!. Pay attention to the light source on the spheres and squares!. It should be practiced to the point of where you are comfortable doing it!.

When you are tired of cones and pyramids and what not, move on to drawing actual inanimate objects!. Draw a coffee cup or scissors or a pencil!. If you are a beginner it might be best to stick to objects that doesn't have a lot of details and have simpler shapes to it!. That way you can practice your rendering skill--to accurately portray the object in your drawing!. Focus on the texture of the object as well as the scale of your drawing in comparison to it!. Notice the reflections on the coffee cups and the sharp edges of the scissors!. And when comfortable with this move on to harder things!. Remember to be patient and don't be disapointed when your drawings are not what want!. All artists start out that way and the bad ones improve our ability more than the good ones!. Remember to have a gum eraser in handy and a pencil sharpener with you at all times!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

try doing some blind contour!.!.!.
get a pencil and paper and find something to draw (plant, apple, etc!.) and look only at the object, don't look at the paper (hence the word BLIND contour!.!.) and try to draw what you see and feel!. then once your done look to see how you did, its fun and gives you the basic feel for visual contras!.
hope that helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try copying someone else's work!.

Place the original upside down and just copy what you see!. (Don't copy what you THINK you see)!.

Practice and more practice!.
